Hi, I’m Rani

Just like so many others.  I’ve had this notion about doing a Travel Blog about all the places I’ve been and photos I’ve taken, for several years and now thanks to a very close friend of mine in Dubai, I too got motivated to start my Blog.

It’s All About Me

As my motto in the header, says “From India to London ti Dubai and Somewhere in Between“.  I’ve lived in three countries, India, United Kingdom and now the United Arab Emirates.  “Somewhere in Between” are the places I/we have travelled to over the years.  I was born in India and as a toddler emigrated with family to London back in 1968.

Lived my childhood and adult life in the East End of London.  I went to school and met my lifelong friends at Forest Gate Community School, to this day a group of 17 of us, “Class of 82“, meet regularly throughout the year and have been at each other’s life events.  My very first holiday at 18 years old was with my school friends, skiing in Saux d’Oulx, Turin, Italy and there started my passion for travel.

Behind the Camera

You know that song “You’ll Always Find Me in the Kitchen at Parties” well that is a true statement about me, but let’s also change that a little bit, to “You’ll Always Find Me Behind a Camera, Everywhere I Go“.  Ever since secondary school, I’ve had a camera in my hand, I’m just loving making memories to last a lifetime.I’d like to think that I have travelled enough to be able to give some advice to those that have thought about it but not yet found themselves doing it.  This Blog is slightly of a different kind of layout in comparison to some that I have seen.  With the spread of Covid-19, we all have put on hold our travel plans and I’ve seen a very close friend of mine start a Travel Blog which motivated me to do so too.

I work full time in an office job so I will take you through my travel adventures from the past years and hope to tickle your travel tastebuds and awaken the Traveller inside you.  Due to the Covid 19 pandemic we have not been able to meet, especially myself as I am on international travel restrictions.  But once we are allowed to travel I’m sure you will have made some plans and a travel itinerary of your own.

I’d done the usual annual holidays and wished I could do more but then to do that you have to have some savings, make plans to leave your friends and family for some time, store or get someone to look after your home and belongings.  This is all possible and such an education and eye-opener.

Life Changing Decision

One evening Scott, my other half, came home from work and said, “Hey, there’s a Presentation Job in Dubai, what do you think?” To which I replied, “Let’s go!”.  So, we found ourselves moving to Dubai, Scott in 2013 and Me in 2014, to work and live.

Both Myself and Scott work full-time so our travels are based around when we can take annual leave. However, we did take time out in 2008/09.  We both quit our jobs and went on a 6.5-month trip: 3-months Overlanding in Africa, 3-weeks in Peru, 6-weeks in Australia, 1-week in Singapore & Hong Kong, and to finish it off 2-weeks in Thailand.

Camping for 90-days in Africa and going into the Amazon jungle in Peru, I had my reservations.  I freak out at the smallest creepy crawlies, have a fear of heights, how was I going to cope, what am I getting myself in to?  I just set my sights onto the trip and you know what, the camping was the best part and each time we had an option to upgrade to a room at the campsite, I regretted it, as they were full of bugs, not our tents, that we cleaned out each morning before putting them away. And once there, it was easy to ignore the bugs as you were in their home territory.

You can read more about all these adventures in My Blog.

Being from an Indian family I had quite a strict upbringing but was never stopped from furthering my studies.  However, I was not allowed to socialise outside of school.  I went on to further studies, as it was that or marriage (LOL!).

Life is not meant to be lived in one place.  Sometimes you are out of your comfort zone, which forces you to adapt to a new learning environment in a short time. I’d like to share with you my fellow Bloggers and audience:

  • My travel adventures and photography journey.
  • Useful information, guidance, and tips along the way.
  • Quotes, Planners, To-Do Lists, Printables.
  • And many more things to look forward to …
